Travel guide
Chios.gr
Chios.gr is the official tourism guide of the Regional Unit of Chios, with content created and curated by the Tourism Department. We took on its redesign: a new theme built on its clean, image-led look, a reorganised menu, and the addition of around twenty-five new sections — among them the Villages of Chios, Mastiha and Homer.
The new organisation puts practical information first: travel and stay, activities and features became the main axes of the menu. A permanent identity text accompanies every page — whose website this is and what it serves — so that even a visitor arriving by chance understands at once. And the acknowledgements page names the writing team and the sources of the texts.
The interactive map of tourism resources, which had stopped working, was repaired and enriched with the island's beaches. We added a ferry and flight connections map kept up to date with the schedules, five suggested routes drawn on Google Maps — the Amani Loop and the Mastic Villages among them — a Media Library with a press kit and material from earlier campaigns, and a directory of tourism businesses, where each business registers through a form and is published after review by the department.
A unique island of the Aegean
The challenge of a redesign is everything that already exists: the site had to be renewed without losing its visual identity and without going offline. We worked on the existing base: the 163 broken links identified in the evaluation report were repaired, a security protocol was added, duplicate addresses were unified, loading time improved, and an accessibility statement was published.
The project closed with training: two seminars for the Tourism Department's staff, so that the content and the blog are updated by the people who write them. But the collaboration did not stop there: technical support continues to this day, with upgrades, backups and updates.
